Posted by E-Man in Sunday, April 13th 2008   under: Flooring    Tags: carpet, carpet installation, carpeting

A majority of how the inside of your house looks and feel will depend on your flooring. Homes with carpets give off an undeniable warmth, resonance, and a real aesthetic appeal. When it comes to choosing, there is a wide range of colors, materials, textures, and designs available that could change the look of your home and give every room a chance to be unique. It is important that you choose the best carpet that you see fit and install it correctly the first time, because installation have a long term perspective.

Once you’ve picked out the material and design that you want, it is time to install it. Needless to say , professionals can install it for you, or you may choose to DIY (do it yourself). Even though it is cheaper than hiring someone, doing it yourself is not recommended if you don’t have the proper tools to get the job done, or if you lack experience.

A great way to ensure a professional installation of your carpet is to buy from an authorized carpet retailer or dealer. Most of the time, your carpet retailer will have an installation staff that is very experienced with installing carpet.

The Many Shapes and Forms of Designing a Living Room

Posted by E-Man in Wednesday, April 9th 2008   under: Home Decor    Tags: living room, living room designs

There are many shapes and forms to designing a living room. Sometimes the many choices available today in interior planning and decorating are overwhelming. There are a few ways to weed out the living room designs that are not suitable for your home. A little thought and a little planning goes a long way especially when considering your area’s general arrangement and even when you are considering the delicate detail.

Our habitats have changed throughout history and this is reflected in the complicated room. There was a time when the quarters were referred to as parlors. Since many wakes were held in the person’s home after he passed away, the term gradually took on a somber connotation. As the development of the funeral home emerged, people needed a new term for their parlors to sweep away the stigma. The perfect choice was living room.

In today’s society the room is not associated with wakes. However, the parlor does keep its complexity in that many still adopt a formality in their living room designs. Of course, the area is not used for such somber occasions any more but the general feel of formality is present. People who adopt this style tend to use the area for entertaining guests rather than sitting back and watching television. This is reflected in the design also.

Home Decorating Ideas With a Creole Twist

Decorating Your Home With a Creole Twist

Of all the styles of architecture and decorating around the world very few have taken the best of all the others and made it a little bit better in quite the way that the style often referred to as “French Creole” has managed to do. The truth is that while this style of architecture that New Orleans is famous for is really heavily borrowed from many other cultures and yet uniquely New Orleans at the same time.

Creole architecture for many brings to mind convolute wrought iron work, long shutters (to cover the windows usually during hurricanes), huge windows and doors (these were designed larger than typical homes in other parts of the country in order to create breeze ways for the wind to come through in the sweltering hot summer months), and bright colors that you aren’t likely to find in most million dollar neighborhoods. This style of architecture and home décor is also famous for huge balconies-also with wrought iron railing.

The great thing about the Creole style of home decorating is that there is no one identifiable feature that labels a design style as decidedly Creole. Lagniappe is a term that people here quite often in and around New Orleans. For those who do not know, it means “a little something extra”. From an extra donut to a freebie bookmark and many things in between, that little something extra has a long history in New Orleans from the architecture to the music there always seems to be a little something extra that you couldn’t get anywhere else.

Springtime Decorating Ideas to Liven Up Your Home

Posted by E-Man in Thursday, March 6th 2008   under: Home Decor    Tags: Home Decor, home decorating ideas, spring decorating

Spring time is the time to change things, a renewal of things. It is the time of year when people across the country begin shaking off the final grounds of winter, opening their windows, and hanging clothes on the lines to dry. It is the time of year that many folks do their cleaning but rarely think of decorating their home. Truth be told, there are very few times of year when it is more advantageous to decorate your home. Face it, for most of us, this is the only time of year that we really enjoy the chore of cleaning.

In the summer time we clean because the kids are constantly tracking dirt, mud, grass, and god knows what else into the house. Cleaning in these days is a chore and yet we still manage to bring out the patriotic colors and celebrate America in style. It’s a wonder how with all the extra cleaning that is going on and the nearly double amounts of lemonade and iced tea being consumed daily. Still we manage to decorate and take great joy in doing so as if some right of passage has been achieved by our home decorating efforts.

When Thanksgiving and Winter time comes around  we clean house because we have no choice. Friends and family will show up and they expect our homes to be well decorated and clean. This I must tell you is quite the achievement with the rush of the holidays on the move and yet somehow we manage to come up with some Christmas cheer when others are around while playing Mr. Scrooge when it comes to running the mop and the broom around our rooms.

The Real Beaty of Having Wood Floors

Posted by E-Man in Sunday, February 17th 2008   under: Flooring    Tags: Flooring, wood floors

Out of all the houses I’ve seen in my lifetime, I have to say that none are as warm and inviting as those that have wood floors. This simple and classic material is a must for anyone who wants to create an inviting atmosphere for friends and family to share. The truth is that the timeless beauty of wood floors gives enhancement to any room and it adds value to the home as a whole. The beauty of wood floors goes beyond the physical attributes associated with the traditional flooring. For instance, Many real estate agents assert that a home that has wood floors will sell quicker than a home that has other types of flooring. The wood floors also increase the value of the home as well. Homes that have the timeless element built in sell for more money than ones that don’t.

Even though the feature enhances the beauty of your home and even though the feature increases the economic value of your home, it is relatively inexpensive. This makes wood floors a great treasure overall. Another great facet of the traditional flooring is the quality and appearance of the material increases over time if the material is well maintained.

Maintaining your wood floors is relatively easy. Today’s stains and finishes are so advanced that they have little demands as far as upkeep. The strength of the material lies in the technical advances in today’s finishes for this type of element. You can maintain your wood floors by keeping up with steady cleanup that requires little more than sweeping with a broom or vacuuming.
